Nikon D90
At the end of 08, I decided to upgrade my Canon XT. I really wanted a camera with great ISO performance, after getting tired of awful noise past ISO 800. After enough brainwashing by a friend of mine, I decided to switch to Nikon, which at the time (end of 08) had a clear edge in terms of camera body and sensor performance.
The Nikon D90 has really impressed me so far, especially considering its relatively low price.
Pros:
- Great body, rather compact with gorgeous screen.
- Awesome interface: with its 2 dials and many shortcuts, any setting can be changed without going to any menu.
- Great low-light performance. ISO up to 2500 has very little noise, 2500 to 3200 shows some progressive blurring.
- Active D-Lighting gives you HDR-like shots: you can take subjects with sun or lights in the background, and get pretty good results.
- fast FPS.
Cons:
- Hmm really not much to say. Maybe the video mode isn’t that well done, with no “on the fly” re-focusing.
Lenses
While Nikon’s bodies are at this time superior to Canon’s in my view, the lens offering is much scarcer.

- Nikon 50mm f/1.8D AF
- Nikon 60mm f/2.8D AF Micro
